MotoGP: Dovizioso: This Friday proved to be better than expected

While Jorge Lorenzo was busy with the new fairing, Andrea Dovizioso was taking his GP17 to the head of the pack, finishing the session on Friday in the lead. It would seem that the first time’s a charm for the Italian on a track that is anything but friendly for the Ducati.

It went very well, both in the morning and in the afternoon – the Italian commented – In FP1 we used the soft and the medium tyre, which almost no one tried. In FP2, on the other hand, I managed to get some important feedback on speed. I am happy, although some opted for different strategies than mine.”

Dovizioso also gives the resurfacing of some parts of the track passing marks.

I think they did a good job – he commented – There are still bumps, but I must say that there is more grip, especially in the water. So there are no negative aspects, since sometimes you find slick asphalt after the work is done. The fact remains that here in Brno, turning laps on a MotoGP bike is complicated.”

In any case, his face shows confidence.

“It went better than expected – the Italian said – The session today was partially conditioned by the foul weather. Some used the new tyre, others didn’t. More than the position, it is the lap time that makes me happy – he added – but I know that tomorrow my time will not be enough to stay in the top ten.”

When asked about the fairing Lorenzo used...

I’ll take advantage of the afternoon tomorrow to speak with the team and make a decision – he advised – Then we’ll see whether to use it this weekend or next. Right now, I am undecided about it.”
