Davide Giugliano arrived at the Lausitzring yesterday afternoon. He's on track today and tomorrow for a two-day test with the Fireblade SP2. Also on track with him is test rider Michele Magnoni. We spoke to Giugliano on the phone and he told us how he was feeling prior to the test.

Davide, this was an unexpected development.

“This is a test as you know – he commented – last week Honda asked me if I was interested to ride with them at the Lausitzring and I didn't hesitate to say yes. There was good understanding from the outset".

You'll be in the spotlight in Germany.

“I repeat, this is just a test for me, where the aim is to find the kind of sensation I've been missing for three months. I'm curious to see the level of confidence with the Fireblade SP2 – he explained – and will try to give the team as much data as possible”.

For now the Fireblade SP2 seems to be struggling. Are you worried?

“It's a pity to see a bike of this caliber suffering – he stated – Bradl is a very experienced, very fast rider, he is giving his all to be competitive. It would be great to see the bike fighting at the front”.

You'll complete a two-day test. Is it a bit like the first day back at school?

I'd say so, I'm interested to see what the sensations and confidence will be like. I haven't ridden in the world championship for a while and I can't wait to get on the bike”.

The Lausitzring could be a launch pad to competing in the race in August. What do you think?

I'd be a hypocrite to say no – he admitted - of course I'd like to return to Superbike, but for now it's just this test and nothing more”.

Honda is looking for a rider to join Bradl for the rest of the season. But Hayden's bike is one that burns.

“Right now I'm not thinking about the championship or races. The only thing I want to say is that  Nicky has left an enormous hole in this sport – he commented - I will do my best to make the most of the opportunity I've been given”.
