SBK, Rea wins at Laguna Seca, Sykes 2nd, Davies 3rd

Ninth win of the season for the Northern Irish rider in race 2, Melandri 4th followed by Forés, then the Aprilias of Laverty, Mercado and Savadori

SBK: Rea wins at Laguna Seca, Sykes 2nd, Davies 3rd

He'd fasted for more than a month and so Johnny Rea was more than ready to have the last word today. In race 2, the Northern Irish rider was back to winning ways, and did the job in style. Despite starting eighth on the grid, the Kawasaki rider needed less than three laps to reach the front and then lead all the way to the line.

A monologue for the current champion, who scores his ninth win of the season. Behind him Tom Sykes. #66 tried his best to slow his team-mate down in the early stages, but there was nothing doing today. The Englishman crossed the line second, ahead of the Ducati of Chaz Davies, who lost ground early on.

Behind him Marco Melandri, who once again just misses out on the podium, having made a mistake on lap three that more or less ruled him out of the fight. Forés closes fifth on the privateer Panigale, followed by the Aprilias of Laverty, Mercado and Savadori. The Yamaha of Lowes crosses the line ninth ahead of that of van der Mark. Eleventh for Bradl on the Honda, fifteenth for Gagne.

Disaster in the BMW camp with both De Rosa and Torres crashing out. DNFs also for Badovini and Camier.
