Tragic news reaches us from the Catalunya 24 Hours, where rider Enric Saurí, racing a Yamaha R1 for the Motos Gaspar team, has lost his life.
According to the official press release issued by the Montmelò track, the Spanish rider (second from right in the photo) ran off track at the first corner, diagonally crossed the run off area and ran straight into the protective barriers. He suffered multiple injuries in the impact, and was taken by ambulance to the Granollers General Hospital but doctors were unable to save him.
The race continues and the organisers have decided that there will be no podium celebrations but rather a minute's silence in his memory.
