MotoGP: Lorenzo: eleventh place? It could have been worse

A great start, in line with that of Mugello, then the usual problems that caused him to lose ground and fall back to eleventh place. The German Grand Prix ended like this for Jorge Lorenzo, who leaves the Sachsenring disappointed.

I can't say I'm pleased with today's performance or for the gap to Marquez – commented the Majorcan - but I also don't want to be demoralised. After the warm-up, I was very worried because I was lacking rhythm and feared it would go worse, but in the race I was competitive over the first five laps”.

Lorenzo explains the reasons for his difficulty.

“Unfortunately I was struggling too much because the bike was jumpy through the turns and the tyre quickly deteriorated at the rear left  – he revealed - it was spinning and there was little grip”.

At this point, mid-season, the Majorcan sums up his situation.

"I'm definitely more at ease with the GP17 now than I was before –he commented - at tracks where I feel confident I can fight for the podium, also we've left two tracks that are difficult for me and the Ducati. We need some significant modification in order to reduce the gap from the front of course”.

Lorenzo has clear ideas.

“We can improve by working on the frame and aerodynamics and trying to have more confidence at the front. The bike will change and I will try to ride more naturally, to be fast”.

The Majorcan is aware of the areas that need work.

“I think we need to work while maintaining the power, but improving corner entry because the GP17 has more grip at the rear than at the front. There are a few details to iron out, but it's not simple. Up until today, the bike hasn't changed much since the first race, but I expect it to in the future”.

His final comment regards the soft tyres.

With the medium front I was suffering through the fast turns, I risked crashing. In the third sector, I was struggling to be consistent like Dovizioso”.
