MotoGP: Espargarò: I want a podium by the end of the year

It is an Aprilia that is making clear progress on Friday and Aleix Espargaró confirms this. Fourth in FP1, fifth in FP2, a sign not to be underestimated in view of Saturday, where the Spaniard could go straight through to Q2 if it rains in FP3.

“I am very happy with this day - Aleix began - I have been able to go fast since Mugello and I was also fast in Barcelona and at Assen. Obviously it is Sunday that counts, but I can say that this is my best Friday since I have been racing with the Aprilia.

There is great confidence in his eyes at the end of this Friday.

“I do not really like the layout of the track - he points out - but I showed that I am competitive, staying in the top five in both of the free practice sessions. On the dry track I was fast, but I was also fast with the water, however, we can improve. If it rains we won’t have to go through Q1.”

He is also among those who give the new asphalt passing marks.

“Incredible. They did a great job. There are no more bumps and the grip is high, plus with the water we are five seconds faster. What can I say? That is the German way (he smiles).

The Spaniard then explains what he did with the tyres.

“This morning I worked on the tyres, trying three on the front and two on the rear during the course of 20 laps. They were the ones I had to use and I was about three tenths slower compared with the soft, so I can say that I am rather satisfied.”

The goal to chase is quite clear.

“I want to finish on the podium by Valencia - he advised - In Barcelona I was competitive and at Assen I had the pace of the top three before it began to rain. I need to stay focused for the entire weekend, trying to stay with the leaders.”
