MotoGP: Flamigni: Valentino becomes Peter Pan to win

Valentino's win at Assen was significant for several reasons: because it was his tenth in Holland, because it broke a fast that had lasted more than a year, because he became the oldest winner in MotoGP, because he relaunched himself in the standings, because he did it using the new frame that he wanted.

A perfect weekend, in which Rossi once again responded to the criticisms, showing that at 38 years of age he can still be ‘crazier’ than many youngsters.

Matteo Flamigni, the Doctor's telemetrist, provided Corriere dello Sport with his own take on the amazing fight against Petrucci: “at times like that he's like Peter Pan in Neverland: if you can dream it, you can do it. And if I may say - I've read that Danilo said that if he hadn't had to get past the lapped Rins he could have beaten him. I'm not so sure... passing him at the final corner, at Assen no less…”.

One of Valentino's strengths has always been his team, the work group with which he shares every joy and every frustration. 2017 can now be celebrated, but it didn't start off so well. This was because of the M1, with which Maverick was flying while Rossi was struggling.

He wasn't convinced. On the other hand, Vinales, his team-mate, was immediately fast and Vale had some doubts - explained Flamigni - Is it me? is it the team that hasn't yet understood the new bike? One of Vale's great quality's is his humility. After 9 world titles he still questions himself. He was complaining about a little understeer, but then Maverick won Grand Prix. The breaking point came after Jerez and Barcelona. Let's say that we got this championship back under control. We start over from Holland, with 10 races still to run. All square."
