MotoGP: Marquez: When I saw it raining I thought of the championship

For Marquez the time to return to victory has not yet arrived, but he can leave Assen leaving a ‘plus’ sign by the Assen Grand Prix. Marc gave it his all for the early laps, but then he knew how to settle, but without giving up beating Crutchlow and, calculator in hand, the overall standings smile upon him.

The good news is that despite all the difficulties I am just 11 points behind the championship leader - the world champion smiles - I am pleased because I know we can still improve. We’ll get there.

In the meantime, he brought home important points while awaiting better times.

It was a difficult race. I realized that the Yamahas were a step ahead - he recounts - At the race start I took some risks to stay close to the leaders, but when the rain began to fall I was cautious. Did I think about changing bikes? I just decided to copy what the leaders were doing.

In the end he put on a show with Crutchlow, “I had fun”, despite knowing that Viñales had crashed out.

I kept pushing when I saw the signal on the board. I couldn’t afford to slow down - he says – But when I saw the rain I thought about the championship. In those conditions you can earn a lot of points or lose everything and I could not afford that.”

The next round is at the Sachsenring, Marquez’s realm.

Despite the fact that it is not one of my favourite tracks, it suits my Honda and my riding style well - he says - But this year we will need to see how we perform with the new asphalt.”
