MotoGP: Rossi: new frame and positive sensations

Valentino and Vinales agree on one thing: the test went well for them both. The similarities (performance aside, with Maverick 2nd and Rossi 10th) finish there though, because the Spaniard continues to stay faithful to the current frame while the Italian is pleased with the new one brought from Japan to satisfy his requests.

It's been a good day, we had many interesting things to test and we were able to improve and learn - Dottore - I'm not saying we've solved all the problems, we still need to improve rear grip, but sensations are better”.

Valentino set out his needs after Jerez and has received a new frame here.

It's a little different and improves my confidence at the front, that's what I wanted -  he explains - Now the M1 is easier to ride, more precise, I prefer it. I think this will be the last important update of the season, as the Japanese will start work on the 2018 bike”.

The fact remains that there is some disagreement in the Yamaha camp as to the direction to take.

I don't know if there is a division, Maverick has had less issues with this bike because he doesn't have history with the Yamaha - responds Rossi - There are no big problems anyway, the two frames are not that different and we may decide that I'll use one and he another. Maverick will test these parts tomorrow and we'll see what we says”.

His final comment is on Dovi and the championship.

Andrea is definitely a title contender - he confirms - This is a strange championship where getting the tyres to work well is the key. It's very easy to go from feast to famine, there are 5 riders in 28 points and Lorenzo and Zarco are not far off”.

VINALES: GREAT TO RIDE WELL AGAIN - The championship is led by Vinales who has regained his smile, albeit a bitter one considering what happened on Sunday.

It was great to get back to riding well again - he comments - I had confidence today, I completed long-runs in the heat and was able to maintain a good pace”.

Maverick doesn't say it, but his thoughts are on the tyres. He used Sunday's bike to test, so what has changed.

I don't know, don't ask me” he smiles.

The Spaniard is not convinced that a new frame can make the difference.

Today, with the one I usually use, I set some laps in 1’44” and  many in 1’45” in a long run, so that's good - he says - But tomorrow I'll focus on testing the new parts”.
