Moto3: Fenati: harmony with the team makes the difference

After the crash at Le Mans and poor result at Mugello, Romano Fenati is back on the podium at Barcelona. Two second places in one day for the Italian, one in the race and one in the general standings.

Romano, did you think you could win?
The race pace was really fast at the start but then it slowed and 7 laps from the end the leading group was a little large for my liking. i decided to push to try to break away and the bike allowed me to do that, so I have to thank the team, when everything is working you can think about strategy.

Could you have come up with something on the final lap?
I didn't want to take too many risks, after two poor results, the podium and points were too important, for both me and the team”.

You're now second in the championship but 45 points from Mir, too much?
We're only at race seven, two years ago, Kent had a 100-point lead and then risked losing the title”.

Joan doesn't make many mistakes though…
It doesn't really matter if he or another rider is my rival, I think have to carry on and then we'll see if those points are too many or too few. I'll let you know at Valencia (he laughs)”.

You seem to have improved in terms of constancy…
“Yes, we're always up there, maybe I've matured a little and so some of it may be down to me, but mainly it's down to the team working so well. Together, we're able to go a good job, we're in harmony and this is why we can achieve these results.

Mir has announced his move to Moto2 next year, are you considering it?
Yes when I'm playing cards with my friends at the bar, Honda wants to drop Marc Marquez and wants me (he laughs). Joking aside, we're still working things out but I definitely won't be in Moto3 in 2018”.
