The French Moto2 weekend had begun under the sign of the Italians with four of them in the top four spots and it ended the same way. In fact, three Italians finished in the top five, with Franco Morbidelli leading the squad. The team Marc Vds rider was simply perfect, taking the race lead after a few laps without relinquishing it again all the way to the chequered flag. For Morbidelli this is his fourth win in five races: “This is an unexpected win, given practice and warm up. Fortunately, in the race I rediscovered great confidence with the bike. I am also pleased for Pecco.”

In fact, seriously badgering number 21 was Francesco Bagnaia, just a few tenths from the lead down to the final lap to earn his second consecutive podium in his rookie season. Tom Luthi rounded out the podium, getting the best of a bruised Alex Marquez in the final laps. Fifth place went to Mattia Pasini who had dreams of finishing on the podium at the mid-race point, but then he had to settle. Behind him was Swiss rider Aegerter ahead of Nakagami and a positive Simone Corsi, who made a brilliant comeback ride. Rounding out the top ten were Xavi Vierge and Yonny Hernandez.

It was a day to forget for Baldassarri, forced to retire after a crash that came whilst battling for fifth place, as well as for Marini who did not finish even the first lap and Manzi, crashing out while lying 18th. The other Italians over the line were Andrea Locatelli and Axel Bassani, respectively 19th and 24th.
