MotoGP: Le Mans: testing ruined by rain, Vinales flies

At tests arranged by Michelin at Le Mans this week, riders had to deal with bad weather. In attendance at the the recently resurfaced French track were Rossi, Vinales, Marquez, Pedrosa and Crutchlow, as well as the KTM and Aprilia riders and Pirro representing Ducati.

On Monday no-one went out on track, while yesterday afternoon, on a dry track, the factory Yamaha men rode while Honda preferred to cancel their tests, leaving Cal to complete some laps. Website Oues France credits Maverick with the best lap time, a 1’32”418, which would mean he lapped within half a second of last year's pole time (1’31”975 set by Lorenzo) and 4 tenths faster than the track record (1’32”879 set by Rossi in 2015). As seen in this photo that the Spanish rider posted on Twitter, Vinales also tested the double fairing with incorporated wings at Le Mans.

Considering the far from ideal conditions, the lap time says a lot about the quality of the track resurfacing work.

teams tried to collect as much data as possible now that the track has been resurfaced. We'll now study all of the information to bring the teams the best tyres for the French GP” commented Michelin manager Piero Taramasso.

With riders now on their way to Jerez, the only men still at Le Mans today are test rider Mika Kallio for KTM, Michele Pirro for Ducati and Broc Parkes working for Michelin.
