SBK: SS300: Scott Deroue does it again in Assen

It was Dutch hometown hero Scott Deroue who won his second Supersport 300 race, a race where anything and everything happened: among dozens of passes, contact between riders, battles in close quarters, off-track excursions and penalties, the Kawasaki rider managed to take his second consecutive win, making it two out of two thus far. Limping but happy, he is the one who has set the bar for the moment in this new category.

Another Dutchman who was on the second step of the podium is number 51, Glenn Van Straalen, who finished ahead of the skilful and wise Alfonso Coppola: See? The battle here is harsh. There are a lot of crashes and the trick is to stay calm in the opening laps, waiting for the final onesthe team SK Racing Yamaha Italian rider said.

Sanchez was fourth after conceding two positions in the race, and South African rider Loureiro finished a nice race in fifth place ahead of Garcia. It was an outstanding ride by Ana Carrasco, the Spanish girl who used to ride in the Moto3 championship and who battled for the win today, unsuccessfully, but not by much. Her turn on the top step of the podium will have to wait for another day.

Among the top fifteen riders in the points, Italian riders Facco, De Gruttola and Pontone did admirably. The other young lady in the race, New Zealander Biddle finished nineteenth and, despite his surname Nicola Settimo [‘seventh’ in Italian] finished twentieth astride his R3 which appropriately bears the number 7.

Overall standings: Deroue 50, Sanchez 26, Coppola 21
