Moto3: Fenati hits the bulls eye in Austin ahead of Martin

Romano Fenati had a precise strategy: start well (and he did, on the second start), stay on practice dominator Aron Canet’s pipes, badger him with insistent and sudden attacks until getting on his nerves. Mission accomplished, because the Spaniard flew through the air after a violent high side and the rider from Ascoli, finally alone in the lead, managed to win undisturbed, just the way he likes it.

For the team Snipers Honda rider, this is career win number 8, his second in Austin; evidently, this track is a good match for Romano’s riding style, aggressive and fast like he is in his best times: “Basically, Canet had gotten away at the front, but the red flag helped me - Romano revealed - Putting on a new tyre before the second start, I was then able to find the pace I needed. Canet wanted to push me out, but then he had a high side on his own.”

Second place for Jorge Martin who fought well and got the better of Fabio Di Giannantonio, who finished with a great third place after being a protagonist in the race; so it was a double podium for team Honda Gresini. Fourth place went to Enea Bastianini, just shy of the podium and barely ahead of Nicolò Bulega, who finished fifth with the first KTM across the line.

Guevara, McPhee, Mir, Oettl and Binder rounded out the top ten and, following Argentinian Rodrigo’s eleventh place it was Andrea Migno, twelfth after a nice comeback ride. Niccolò Antonelli finished fourteenth with his KTM. Outside the points were Bezzecchi and Arbolino, but both in the top 20. Pagliani and Dalla Porta finished a very difficult race in the rear guard, with Manuel even crashing after the first start.

Championship Standings: Mir 58, Martin 52, McPhee 49
