"I could have been competitive last year but I made a mistake". Viñales promises a battle: "always strong in Texas"

MotoGP: Rossi: I have an account to settle with Austin

The Grand Prix of the Americas in Texas will be the 500th for Yamaha and the Japanese team could not have arrived at this benchmark in a better way. Viñales won the first two races of the season, whereas Valentino has finished on the podium in every race and the two are leading in the overall standings.

Now it is time for Austin, where Marquez reigns supreme, so it may not be so simple even if Maverick and Rossi are pumped up and ready to accept the challenge against the world champion.

The Texan track has always been good to Marc in the past, but this time the winds could change. The Doctor feels ready to make a go of it.

“I'm happy to be in Texas. I really like Austin - he says - The first two races of the season went well and I hope to improve the performance of the first days of free practice. We have much work to do, but I'm confident in my bike and in my team. Austin is a very difficult track and I love riding here”.

Even if twelve months ago things did not exactly go his way.

I have an account to settle with this track because last year in the warm-up I made a big step for a strong race but unfortunately I made a mistake - he recalls - This year I want to try to have a good race.

And then, it seems like nothing is impossible for Viñales, who has set himself up as the man to beat in this early part of the season. Beating Marquez on his favourite pitch would have the flavour of victory and it seems that Maverick does not want to miss out on anything.

I'm happy that the next round is Austin because I won my first race there in Moto2, I've always been very strong here - he states - I also did one of my best results in America last year, so I think it‘s a good track for my riding style. I love the up and down track, with lots of elevation, so I'm so excited to see how my M1 will work here and how I'm going to feel riding the Yamaha. I'm confident and I know that I can do another good race weekend.
