Moto2: Brad Binder to miss the Texas GP

The season didn't get off to the best start for Brad Binder. During the Argentina GP, the South African rider found the plate in his left arm moved, inserted following a crash at the Valencia tests last November. Medical staff at Rio Hondo decided that the Moto3 champion would require further surgery.

Yesterday, the team Ajo rider underwent surgery at the Hospital Universitario Dexeus in Barcelona, under the guidance of Doctor Xavier Mir. The operation, carried out in three phases, proved successful: “We removed the old plate, then a new one was inserted – explained the surgeon – lastly, we removed some of the skin on the arm to insert it around the fracture, allowing the bone to weld as quickly as possible. He will need to stay in hospital for 24-48 hours and can then begin rehabilitation in three weeks' time.”

The South African is therefore forced to miss the Austin event, taking place from 21-23 April, with the hope of returning for the Jerez round, from 5-7 May.
