Aragon is his track and in the end he was able to reach the top step of the podium. Chaz Davies made up for the Race 1 outcome in the best possible way, getting the better of Rea and snatching his first win of the year. He has a lot of points still to make up, but the Welshman has no intention of giving up easily.

“I'm really pleased, especially after yesterday's crash. We could have done without that, but I can only look ahead. We've worked hard all weekend, without ever giving up. Both Friday and yesterday, after what happened in Race 1. I can say I'm happy”.

You were forced to play catch-up. Many complained about the strong gusts of wind.

“The race was a complicated one, because as well as my rivals the wind was really annoying. It felt like it was blowing 1000mph (he jokes). Then at the end I made a mistake because of the strong guts, going long at turn five”.

This didn't impact on the final result though.

“Luckily no, because I was able to catch Rea. His Kawasaki was competitive along the straight but I knew the Ducati was agile through the turns. So I made the most of the change in direction to pass him and beat him to the line”.

It took you a few laps to pass the Yamaha. How come?

“I struggled for a few laps because I was having trouble with the bike through certain sections and didn't have the right confidence with the tyres. Honestly, I wasn't in a rush, seeing as no-one ahead was able to break away".

How important is this first win?

“Today all that counted was winning, I couldn't calculate. Yesterday's crash impacted on the standings, and Rea can count on a competitive bike. I'm pleased but at the same time aware that we need to take steps forward in certain areas”.

Sunday at Aragon is filed away. Tomorrow teams will return to the Spanish track for testing.
