MotoGP: Marquez: Losail doesn't suit my style but I'll aim for the podium

Marquez Marquez' challenge for a sixth title will get underway in Qatar. The Spaniard is understandably excited ahead of the season's start, something he himself admits: “The first race is always special and I'm always more nervous than usual – says #93 – it's one of the most special tracks on the calendar, though we have to be careful. The sand makes it very slippery and then there are various hard braking points where you need good stability”.

He has only won the Qatar race once in the reigning class, in 2014, after a thrilling head to head with Rossi. It's not one of the Spaniard's favourite track that's for sure: “This track perhaps doesn't suit my style particularly well – comments the five-time champion – over the winter we worked hard, knowing that we have a more competitive bike compared to 2016. I'm sure we can fight for the podium and will give it our all starting from Thursday”.

The winter tests have also highlighted the potential of Daniel Pedrosa, consistently right behind the leaders. It would be a mistake to underestimate him: “We've worked well during the pre-season, improving the bike and our performance – analyses #26 – we need to take steps forward in certain areas, but we know they're working hard in Japan".

The forecast shows rain right up until Sunday, something that will certainly have an effect. Pedrosa is well aware of this:  “The dust and strong wind will have a bearing on grip – comments the Spaniard – The track has a long straight and so you need a strong engine”. Predictions ahead of the weekend? “It's difficult because there's a lot of competition – he concludes – but I have faith and want to do my best
