SBK, Race two grid, Melandri to start from pole

The complicated regulation establishes Sunday's race grid: the Ducati rider starts in pole having finished further, winner Rea will start ninth

SBK: Race two grid, Melandri to start from pole

It couldn't be more complicated and yet... they ran with it! The new regulation that drastically changes the race 2 starting grid is elaborate and less than scientific: while the top 3 in race one will start ninth to seventh on row three, the second and first rows are incomprehensible: Torres, Camier and Hayden will start fourth, fifth and sixth respectively, OK, but why does Melandri start from pole, followed by the two Yamaha riders?!

Melandri concluded race one in fourth place, theoretically shouldn't he start from sixth? And then Laverty, who retired on the final lap, will open the fourth row, ahead of Forés and Savadori who both finished the race?

In terms of TV visibility, what difference does it make to reverse the positions of the four who finishes last in race one? They won't be shown anyway...…

With what appears to be the least meritocratic SBK regulation we've ever seen, here is the definitive grid for tomorrow's race…

Row one: Melandri – Van der Mark – Lowes

Row two: Torres – Camier – Hayden

Row three: Sykes – Davies – Rea

Row four: Laverty – Fores – Savadori

Row five: Reiterberger – Krummenacher – De Angelis

Row six: Bradl -Russo – Jezek

Row seven: Ramos – Badovini
