MotoGP, In Qatar Honda unveils its new 'covered' winglets

MotoGP: In Qatar Honda unveils its new 'covered' winglets

Honda has also made its move and debuted the prototype of a new fairing during the Qatar test, one that incorporates winglets within it, as foreseen by the new regulation. The first to reveal their new aerodynamic solution was Yamaha at Sepang, followed by Suzuki and Aprilia at Phillip Island.

For the HRC technicians this is a first test and is clearly not a definitive solution, in fact (as seen in the image by colleague Matthew Birt) the winglets and covers are less than elegantly applied to the standard fairing. The Japanese engineers are obviously not focusing on aesthetics, but on the benefits of this new solution.

The fairing was entrusted to Marc Marquez who carried out a brief test but crashed at the last turn while using it. The Spaniard was unhurt.

At this point, we need only wait to see what the Ducati engineers have come up with for the Desmosedici. We may see the new Red fairing over the next days of testing, unless they decide to leave the big reveal until the first Grand Prix.
