SBK: 110 with honours for Rea, winning again in Race 2

The grid order changed, but the protagonists remained the same: Johnny Rea and Chaz Davies. The Northern Irish rider won Race 2 as well at Phillip Island, chalking up his fortieth career win. The race followed the same script as yesterday, with a finale not for the weak of heart. The two rivals started the race with their knives in their teeth, battling it out down to the last lap where the head to head left everyone on the edge of their seats. The reigning champion did not give in and thanks to just 25 thousandths of a second, he finished ahead of the number seven Ducati.

There was also room on the podium at Phillip Island for Marco Melandri. It was his dream and it came true after his DNF yesterday. He was only lacking that final push to take part in the battle for the win, but the rider from Ravenna definitely demonstrated his talent once again, after starting from the tenth spot on the grid.

As if that were not enough, he finished ahead of Alex Lowes, denying the Englishman his first podium with Yamaha. Forés’ Ducati finished fifth, followed by Sykes on his ZX-10R and the R1 ridden by van der Mark. Lorenzo Savadori was ninth, redeeming himself after his fall yesterday, ahead of his teammate Laverty and Alex De Angelis, clearly improving.
