SBK: Rea shoots down the reversed grid: "I don't agree, it penalises us"

The engines won't be started until tomorrow, but today already brought us a starter. The curtain has gone up on the 2017 Superbike World Championship with the staging of the official press conference. In attendance on Thursday were Chaz Davies, Alex Lowes, Leon Camier, Stefan Bradl, Eugene Laverty, Jordi Torres and particularly Johnny Rea.

The current world champion was the first to speak in front of the public, talking mainly about the new regulation regarding the reversed Race 2 grid. The Kawasaki rider is not pleased about this new element: “I don't agree – he revealed – particularly in terms of the sportsmanship. It should stay as it always has been”. There is one aspect that the Northern Irishman views positively though: “It will be more exciting for the spectators, as there'll be more of a battle. This new rule won't change my strategy at all – he added –I always set out to win, without making calculations”.

Alongside him, Chaz Davies spoke about having Marco Melandri join him in the garage:He's a great champion and will give me extra motivation this season – he explained – I'm pumped ahead of the new year, especially after last season's finale”. We're drawing ever closer to the start of one of the most highly anticipated SBK seasons ever. In less than 48 hours we'll have the first verdict...
