SBK, Changes to the Superbike grid for 2017

A modified regulation for the production-derived series next season, the SuperSport will feature the flag-to-flag

Changes to the Superbike grid for 2017

The 2016 season may have only recently concluded but changes are already afoot with regard to next season's programme. The Superbike Commission has made some updates to the 2017 regulation, starting with the starting grid.

The formation of the Race 2 grid will depend on the results of Saturday's race. The Superpole results will continue to determine the positions for riders finishing tenth or lower, while the front section of the grid will be determined by the Race 1 results.

The first three rows will therefore be established as follows:

The three fastest riders will occupy the third row, with 1st and 3rd swapping places

The riders who finish 4th to 6th will make up the front row

The riders who close 7th, 8th and 9th will start from row two

There will also be some changes to time scheduling, still to be defined. This means that we will see changes to the way in which the WorldSBK race weekend is run, particularly with the introduction of the World Supersport 300.

There are also technical changes. In terms of the airbox regulations, an update to the regulation means that sensors can now be changed. In addition, part of the variable intake system can be replaced for greater resistance, retaining the same function as the road version.

As of next season, it will be the rider's responsibility to immediately inform the medical director if there have been any changes to his physical condition that could have a bearing on his ability to ride.

The WorldSSP class will feature the flag-to-flag, meaning that in changeable conditions riders can change tyres during the race.

In terms of technical modifications for this class, updates have been introduced to alow changes to the wheel axles, some associated paths and the rear mudguard support.
