Aron Canet: the metal plate from the tibia has been removed

Twelve months on from fracturing his left tibia when training flat track in  L'Ametlla, Spain, Estrella Galicia 0,0 rider Aron Canet underwent surgery on Thursday to have the metal plate inserted in the initial operation removed.

The operation took place at the Hospital Universitari Dexeus in Barcelona, under Dr. Ginebreda and his team. The plate had been stabilising the bone, and was put in place back in January.

Following post-season testing at the Circuit de la Comunitat Valenciana, Canet was given a medical examination and it was decided by doctors to remove the plate, having observed that "the fracture of the tibia was healed and the balance of the ankle was complete."

Dr. Ginebreda, head of the Pathology of Growth and External Fixation at the ICATME institute for traumatology and sports medicine, part of the Hospital Universitari Dexeus in Barcelona, commented that: “We have removed the osteosynthesis material from the left tibia without problems. The fracture has been strengthened. The diagnosis is favourable, without post-surgical incident.”

Canet was discharged from hospital this morning and will require no further tests, but has been prescribed complete rest for the next five days.
