Marco Melandri underwent successful surgery on his meniscus following an injury suffered on Sunday during a charity football match at the Cattolica stadium.

The operation, conducted by Prof. Catani at the Modena Polyclinic, was carried out without complications and the Ducati rider will begin rehab in the coming days and be back in the saddle by the first 2017 tests, scheduled for 24 and 25 January at Jerez de la Frontera, in Spain.

Looking at the positive side, maybe I was lucky to have the problem during this time of the year, with the championship and tests over - Marco sees the glass half full - It is better to have some hard luck now, when we still have all the time we need to recover. I was simply walking when I felt my knee give way, so it would seem that it was just a matter of time before I would have been injured. I will start rehab straight away and in 8 or 10 days I should be able to walk without crutches. I can't wait to get back on the Panigale R.
