SBK, Andrea Quadranti: "we'll get our F4 flying through the turns"

The MV Agusta racing manager confirms the factory's commitment to the SBK championship with Camier continuing on the F4 SBK

Andrea Quadranti: "we'll get our F4 flying through the turns"

The season started off well for the MV Agusta Race Department and, race after race, it has continued to improve, with Leon Camier constantly inside the top five in SBK and with Jules Cluzel battling it out for the title in Supersport, finishing second overall.

Team manager Andrea Quadranti now goes into more detail about the season and offers some interesting insight into the 2017 season: “up until Misano we were doing quite well. Our bikes were always in the top ten in both SBK and Supersport. With regard to SBK, we've worked on the F4 to contain the bike's weight, as well as working on the electronics to make Camier's life easier, given that, as I've often said, the gap from our strongest rivals comes to maximum power.

But, thanks to our commitment and Leon's riding, always on the limit, we've often been the most effective and fastest in braking and corner-entry; up until mid-corner we could fight with the best, but from the moment you open the throttle we were struggling”.

Particularly after the long summer break, Camier was always top four or five…

Yes, I repeat, a lot comes down to the abilities of our English rider. We, as a race department, have worked on the bike's weight and on other electronic and suspension details. We've seen that when our rivals started to suffer with tyre wear, we were still constant in terms of performance. Leon was strong in Germany and in France, where we could have scored a great podium”.

In Supersport, after the mid-season 'crisis', Cluzel reacted well…

“yes, Jules came back strong, as he did at the start of the year. Our problems with the F3 675 came down to electronics management, which, has been drastically reduced in Supersport as a result of the technical regulation. In the final phase of the championship, Cluzel was back on the podium and winning again, and I think his final second place in the standings mirrors his performance this season”.

Looking to 2017, have you decided what you will do?

Sure, we will continue  as a team to represent the MV Agusta brand in both SBK and Supersport, and we've very pleased about this. We are happy with the work done up until now, which is in line with MV's plans, as they support us as much as they can. We remain an external structure but the link between us and the manufacturer is a direct one which I think will intensify in the future”.

So who are you riders?

In SBK we of course confirm Camier: Leon is happy to stay, he believes in the project and has given 100% throughout the course of the season. He knows how to exploit the characteristics of the bike and is a great rider. In Supersport, we intend to have one rider and are working to confirm this plan”.

As you have said, the F4 SBK suffers in terms of maximum power compared to its rivals, where will you work to improve this?

We'll work as much as we can on the engine of course. Our bike is very good but it is a project that is feeling its age. We will improve to make it lighter, another 5 or 6 kg lighter. Lastly, and also thanks to Leon, we'll make the bike faster through the corners, it'll be extremely quick”.
