Losail: Davies fastest on Friday

On Friday night at Losail, it was the red silhouette of Ducati rider Chaz Davies that shone bright, coming close to Tom Sykes' track record (1'57.317). The Welshman set the fastest time of the session, and qualifies for the Superpole with a time of 1'57.712, just a few thousandths of a second (+0.047) ahead of the man who's close to lifting this year's title trophy, Jonathan Rea. Both extremely fast, they were the only riders to duck under 1.58", and seem to be in the best shape ahead of tomorrow's race.

The rest of the riders making up the top ten are all very close in terms of times, with Xavi Fores closing in third with Barni racing's Ducati. The Spaniard closes with a time that puts him 0.303 of a second from the leader. Fourth for Sylvain Guintoli who, with his R1, is moving in the right direction, ahead of the MV Agusta of Leon Camier, who in turn precedes another Yamaha, that of Alex Lowes. The BMW of Jordi Torres closes in seventh place ahead of Nicky Hayden and the Kawasaki of Tom Sykes. The former champion, who is currently second in the standings, seems to have had some trouble, unable to do more than ninth.

Savadori earns a place in SP2 , stopping the clocks on 1'58.523, 0.811 of a second from Davies.

Set to take part in SP1 are Leon Haslam, who seems to have resolved the issues he had in FP1, and Davide Giugliano who is in the shadows right now. The pair close in 11th and 12th place. 13th for Alex De Angelis, 15th for wild card Raffaele De Rosa with the Althea BMW, fresh from winning the  Stock 1000 title, behind the Honda of Michael VD Mark.
