The red wheel of fortune has stopped on #8, that of Hector Barbera. His prize? A factory Ducati GP16. The Spaniard is understandably excited and can barely believe his luck. Also because it all came about at the last minute.
“Yesterday I spoke with Dall'Igna at the airport and, before getting in the car, he told me that it was 95% certain that I could stand in for Iannone - he recounts - My heart started beating like crazy and I didn't sleep last night. Then they confirmed it with me this morning”.
How do you feel now you're wearing red?
“It's like a dream come true, the best opportunity I've ever had in MotoGP. I'm pleased that Ducati is putting its faith in me”.
What do you expect from the weekend?
“I was in the garage and met all the mechanics. Then I saw the bike, which can't be compared to the one I'm riding. But to learn more about it, I'll have to ride it; I want to take things step by step and find good sensation”.
What kind of result are you aiming for?
“I had a dream a few days ago: I was at Motegi, it wasn't raining and I was on the podium. I'd like to score my best MotoGP result as the bike is clearly one step up to that which I usually ride, and so everything should work better. I just have to get on it and get to know it”.
