Rea: "At Magny-Cours I cannot afford to simply manage my lead"

The Race 2 win at the Lausitzring left the road open for Johnny Rea toward the championship title. It still is not a mathematically foregone conclusion, since there are still three races left in the season, but the final sprint toward the sceptre is definitely downhill from here.

Now the time has come to think about the Magny-Cours round, where Rea is confident: “The win in Germany definitely took some pressure off and brought more peace of mind – he stated – now we are headed to France and a track where the fans always give us a warm welcome, but above all, this is the crucial moment of the season.”

The Brit prefers not to look at the standings: “We have a 47-point lead but we cannot stay too relaxed – he added – at the moment I cannot even afford to simply manage the lead, because the gap could close very easily. In any case, I’m confident for Magny-Cours because we have a lot of data and I am sure we will be competitive.”

On the other side of the garage, Tom Sykes dreams of redemption after his fall on German soil. He must not let this chance get away, because the French track is one of the ones he likes: “In the past we have been able to achieve important results at Magny-Cours – the English rider explained – I am sure that the Kawasaki has the potential to win on every track, so we will need to exploit it.”

It’s better not to think about the maths: “In the last race we saw how quickly things can change – he analysed – on Saturday everything went perfectly, whereas on Sunday it was the opposite. We just need to stay focused and give one hundred percent like always. Johnny and I are in the top two spots, so that means that we are on the right path.”
