With higher temperatures and the asphalt rubberized after the morning free practice sessions, the lap times for the second Moto3 session on Friday began to drop progressively, aided also by the improved feeling acquired by the young riders on the track.
In the usual final and decisive five minutes, the South African championship leader Brad Binder astride his team Ajo KTM who made the best time at 1’58”998, flaunting the customary speed and confidence that has been his since the beginning of the season. Behind the South African with a brilliant second best time made in the last lap, was Andrea Migno with his team Sky VR46 KTM, just 154 thousandths slower than Binder.
The third best time of the session went to Fabio Quartararo astride his Leopard Honda full three tenths behind Binder. Fabio Di Giannantonio and his Gresini Honda finished fourth on the time sheets with a gap behind the South African of almost half a second, ahead of Jorge Navarro on his Honda and Jorge Martin astride the first Mahindra on the track at Aragon. Their gap behind Binder was a half a second and some change.
Another Italian in the top positions was Andrea Locatelli who rode his Leopard Honda to eighth place in the afternoon times, just ahead of Lorenzo Dalla Porta, ninth on his Sky VR46 KTM. Eleventh best time went to Enea Bastianini with quite a few changes made to his Gresini Honda, especially in the suspension area. A bit farther back were Niccolò Antonelli, seventeenth, and Niccolò Bulega, twenty-first. The two Italians are a bit more than a second behind Binder, whereas Francesco Bagnaia, Lorenzo Petrarca, Fabio Spiranelli and Stefano Valtulini will have their work cut out for them to reduce the significant gap behind the leaders.
Joan Mir, on the other hand, was not on the track. The team Leopard rider has a high fever and the doctors recommended absolute bedrest. Tomorrow morning he should be able to get back on his KTM for FP3.
