Flag to flag: from 2017 4 mechanics per rider

The Grand Prix Commission (made up of representatives from Dorna, Irta, MSMA and FIM) met at Brno to discuss regulatory changes for the 2017 season. Most of the new rules regard Moto2 and Moto3, but there's something for MotoGP too.

Let's take a closer look.

MOTOGP: 4 MECHANICS FOR THE FLAG TO FLAG - For safety reasons and to reduce the number of people in pit lane during machine changes, each rider may only be assisted by a maximum of four mechanics. Such mechanics must all wear an approved crash helmet which will also help to identify the authorised staff.

To avoid the possibility of accidental engagement of a gear during the machine change the mechanic holding the replacement machine may hold in the clutch lever (as Marquez' men already do). However, actual selection of the gear can only be made by the rider. Breach of this regulation, which can be determined from ECU data, will result in automatic disqualification

MOTO3: ENGINES TO RENT - From 2017 engines and spare parts will not be sold to teams any longer, but loaned to them by the manufacturers. Each Manufacturer, upon request, must be able to supply bikes and spares to a maximum of 14 and a minimum of 6 riders.

MOTO2 AND MOTO3: MORE TESTS - Due to a reduction in the number of days in the programme of official winter tests, testing in the period between the last Grand Prix and the end of November will no longer count towards the permitted maximum number of days available to each rider.

FUEL AND PENALTIES - Again to increase safety, team members will have to use anti-static mats and grounding wrist strap, approved by the Technical Director, when decanting fuel,

The level of penalties for minor infringements that can be imposed by the FIM Stewards Panel without an automatic hearing has been increased.
