Moto3, Fenati case: no replacement until Silverstone

Time is running out, Brno is almost upon us. And the riders of the VR46 Academy are too young for the world championship

Fenati case: no replacement until Silverstone

The name of the rider who will replace Romano Fenati on the Sky VR46 team may not arrive in time for the Czech Grand Prix.

While yesterday's indications seemed to point at Dalla Porta, things are looking less clear today and it's possible that there will be no third rider on track until the team reaches Silverstone, in two weeks' time.

It's not only logistics slowing things down, considering how it's been just four days since the team decided to sideline Fenati and the Brno GP is just around the corner. Sky and VR 46 probably want to be sure to select a rider who has the X-Factor needed in order to be a part of the project.

The problem is that none of the current crop of Academy riders seem to be eligible.

Denis Foggia, currently riding in the CEV with the Junior team is only 15 years of age and so cannot ride in the world championship, with the same going for Celestino Vietti, competing in the CIV.

Marco Bezzecchi could ride on the other hand, and has already competed at the Red Bull Ring as a wildcard entry (20th in qualifying, he didn't finish the race), but he's a factory Mahindra rider.

So it's a difficult decision, whichever way you look at it.
Meawhile, on Twitter, Romano's fans have launched the hashtag #iostoconfenny (I'm with Fenny).
