MotoGP, Dovizioso: I'm angry with myself

Dovizioso: I'm angry with myself

Dovizioso is a rider who admits his mistakes and after the Austrian GP he doesn't hold back with the self-criticism. “I don't deny that I'm disappointed and angry with myself”, he says about his second place finish. The Forlì rider knew he had everything he needed to win, but it didn't go according to plan.

I had good sensations with the bike, I could ride like I wanted - he explains - Like Iannone, I had a good strategy in the first part of the race, avoiding risks and being careful of tyre and fuel consumption. But Andrea opted for the right tyre and in the final phase I couldn't attack him. The decision to start with the hard tyre was mine.

And was the wrong one.

In the final stages I had no grip on the right, I was losing too much in the right-hand turns and couldn't attack him. The tyre made the difference - he continues - Michelin, having examined some tyres, advised us against using the soft tyre. I knew that with the hard tyre there'd be a drop in performance, I saw this in the warm up”.

But the glass is also half full.

“I can't fully celebrate this win, even if I've been an important part of this project - he confirms - Over the last four years with Ducati we've struggled but now we are competitive; I have to be proud of this double”.

But it's not easy.

It's normal to be disappointed when you feel strong but then don't win because of an incorrect choice- underlines Dovi - But I also know that this win will have a positive effect on everyone. But in this race our bike's limits were also clear, they haven't disappeared. Despite the fact we gained in acceleration and along the straight, the Yamahas were only 3 seconds behind us”.

Andrea will need a few days to get over it, and will then be ready for Brno.

It's definitely better that we race in just a few days' time, I'll be able to blow off steam”, he concludes.
