A historic podium at Le Mans, a couple of front rows in qualifying and good placements, even though the last two races were below expectations: this is Maverick Viñales' summary of the first half of his season. The Spaniard was at the centre of the riders market and next year he will leave Suzuki behind to ride a Yamaha.

I took a really big step forward from last year, we can be happy but we always want more - he says - The goal is to always be in the top positions and get on the podium.

Like what happened in France.

“The first podium was incredible. It gave us a breath of fresh air” he remembers.

But that is not enough.

I think that the biggest improvement was the engine - he points out - Now it is difficult to improve because we are very fast but we need to take another step forward. We are trying many things to be able to take this step as soon as possible.”

There are 9 races left until you say goodbye to the GSX-RR.

The target is to try to get more podiums and to stay consistently in the top 6” Maverick's plan.
