Brno test: Alex Marquez 'imitates' Iannone

Without barely enough time to leave the Sachsenring race behind us, it is already time to restart the engines. Two days of tests at Brno with Moto2 in the limelight.

A few teams are on the track such as Forward and Pons, but also the IDEMITSU Honda Team Asia with Nakagami, and let’s not forget about WP-KTM, Interwetten and Marc VDS. For the big Spanish team, only Alex Marquez is present, with Franco Morbidelli, on the other hand, not participating, fresh from a race in German where he had to throw in the towel whilst leading the race.

However, Marc’s younger brother had to deal with a small problem. In fact, during the session he hit a bird hard enough that it damaged the top fairing of his Kalex and collided with the rider’s helmet, as you can see in the photo. It is an incident reminiscent of what happened last October to Andrea Iannone with the seagull during the Phillip Island race.

Back to the day of tests, the fans also came out to the Czech track, partially enticed by the sunny weather. The bar was set by Nakagami, called on to redeem himself for the bitter taste left in his mouth on the Sachsenring. The team IDEMITSU standard bearer stopped the clock at 2’02”9.

Luca Marini was also on the same time during what is his first experience at Brno. He took no less than 72 laps by the time the clock struck 6 PM. The exact same number of laps for Lorenzo Baldassarri.

If the goal for the rider from Tavullia was to get to know the track, on the other hand, the rider from the Marche focused more on the physical aspect after the injury he suffered over the weekend. The two Forward standard bearers also worked on the new Öhlins suspension, finding more confidence going into corners.

The WP-KTM camp was also hard at work on what will be the new bike on the track in 2017, made by the Manufacturer from Mattighofen and WP Performance System. Testing it was former Forward rider Ricky Cardus and Julian Simon.

In addition to the intermediate class, Moto3 was also on the track. Participating teams were Monlau with Navarro and Canet, Bastianini and Di Giannantonio for Gresini, M7 SIC with Czech rider Kornfeil and Norrodin, and let’s not forget about Honda Asia Team with Ono and the winner at Sachsenring, Malaysian rider Pawi. Tomorrow will be the last day, with the first session scheduled from 9 AM to 1 PM. Then the bikes will be back on the track from 2 PM to 6 PM.
