Iannone promotes the new frame: more confidence in the front

It was a good first day of tests for Andrea Iannone on the Red Bull ring. The rider from Vasto took the second best time of the day behind his teammate, but without using the softest tyres available.

"It was a very positive day for us. We were very fast straight away – he confirmed – Ducati had me test the frame advancement that is not much different but my confidence with the front improved a lot. Not having confidence in the front end was a problem I had. With this frame it is better and I’m pleased, also because Ducati continues to have me test new material, even if it is more slowly."

As already mentioned, it seems that the Austrian track favours the Ducatis: four in the top four positions, eight in the top ten.

"Yes, the Ducatis were very fast – admitted Andrea – But Honda is not here, so an important point of reference is missing. Personally, I also did a mini long run with a good pace, still close to my best. And then I did not mount the soft tyre, unlike the others."

Redding complained about the track being dangerous.

"It’s not that the track is dangerous, but we are accustomed to a different standard. From the spot where the grass ends to the wall, it is narrower, the walls are closer. Compared to years ago, the step forward is tangible and the problem is only laterally. It can be improved, but obviously not this year."

What can you say about the others?

"The Suzukis did not do badly. The Yamahas, on the other hand, are difficult to interpret."

Did you have a chance to ride with Stoner? How did he seem to you?

"Casey was fast. He seems good to me, he is always fast and we know that he is a great talent. Don’t ask me if he’ll race though, because I have no idea. You’ll have to ask him about that."
