The critics say that his 2nd place is the child of Marquez’s slipstream, but catching a tow from the super champion is a sin committed by many. Today on the Sachsenring he was successful and that second spot on the grid that he will start the race from is his best result in qualifiers since he began racing in MotoGP.
“This is a track that I like and my Desmosedici works well here too. Then I found Marc ahead of me … and it was so much the better! He really does go fast. I was giving it everything and he was pulling away. I’m not sure how he does it”, Hector smiles.
The Avintia rider’s result is not by chance. In this first half of the 2016 season, he has managed to exploit every opportunity without ever making a mistake.
“It’s an important year for me – he continues – I’m lying 7th in the championship standings, the first Ducati rider and without having an official bike. Being among the best, like today, is important.”
The race is tomorrow. What is the goal?
“Quite sincerely, I don’t know. I am hoping for a dry race, although at Assen things went well in the rain. Seeing my pace in FP4, maybe I can stay in the top 6.”
