Ciabatti: it's true, we are negotiating for Melandri at Ducati

Marco Melandri’s name is once again on the table in Ducati negotiations as they look for a rider to replace Davide Giugliano in Superbike alongside Chaz Davies.

"It’s true that we are talking with him and with another two riders - Paolo Ciabatti confirmed for us yesterday, adding - but no decision has been taken yet."

The sponsor Aruba likes Melandri a lot and they would like to have an Italian on the team.

"True, but we do not choose based only on this criteria ", the manager from Turin clarifies. The other two riders should be Eugene Laverty, who proved to be a winner in SBK with Aprilia, but Michael van der Mark’s name has also been mentioned

Sportmediaset’s desire to have a winning Italian in the factory derivative championship also weighs heavily in Melandri’s favour.

As of yesterday, the only actual offer for the rider from Ravenna had come from Manuel Puccetti to bring him back to Superbike on a Kawasaki.
