Laguna Seca, Davies: "I'm disappointed, I wasn't on the limit"

A Saturday to forget, and quickly too, for the Ducati Aruba team. After a very positive performance in practice, with Giugliano and Davies seemingly ready to score a significant result at the undulating Laguna Seca track, the race didn't go to plan. Two mistakes, one on lap five for Chaz Davies and one for Giugliano at the mid-race point, put a premature end to the Ducati riders' race, wiping out the good work completed up until that point. The crashes didn't cause damage (except to morale) and were probably caused by a desire to keep pace with the green bikes, though to match Sykes and Rea was no easy task.

“I’m very disappointed", commented Chaz. "We got off a good start and we had a good pace from the very beginning. I didn’t feel on the limit but I felt the rear lock while on the brakes ahead of turn 7, and when it gained grip back the front loaded too much and I couldn’t do anything. We’ll try to bounce back tomorrow, given that we have good potential.”

Davide Giugliano was on track for an almost certain podium. After last year's crash and front-row start this year, a top three result would have been a good way to close this sad chapter of his career, as well as allow him to confirm the positive work done in recent races: “It’s been a difficult day, for the whole team. We had a pace worthy of the podium, if not more, but it’s useless to say that in retrospect. We’ll have to understand together with the team what caused the crash, because at that point of the race I wasn’t pushing 100 percent as I was trying to save the tyres. We have to move on and look forward, as tomorrow we’ll have another chance to score a good result.”
