MotoGP, WUP: Ducati one-two, Iannone 1st and Dovizioso 2nd

Third best time for Viñales ahead of Rossi, Marquez fifth followed by Lorenzo, Pedrosa still not in the top ten

WUP: Ducati one-two, Iannone 1st and Dovizioso 2nd

The sun finally arrived to warm the Assen track, but in the final moments a few drops of rain were back. As Scott Redding had said yesterday, the race at 2:00 PM could really be a gamble. Among the many unknowns, Ducati confirms its superiority once again, with both riders finishing in the top two spots. Iannone filed away the last session with a time of 1’34”638, just over a tenth of a second better than his teammate Dovizioso did (+0.133).

There were signs of a comeback from Maverick Viñales as well (+0.253) who, after the bland qualifying round on Saturday, found the grit to land third place behind the two standard bearers from Borgo Panigale. Valentino Rossi (+0.310) also showed his potential on the TT track

for the umpteenth time, taking the fourth best time of the morning ahead of Marc Marquez (+0.358). In the final stages, the number 93 Honda also cut through the chicane in front of teammate Pedrosa, just as the number 46 Yamaha had done to him last year.

Pedrosa (+1.836), on the other hand, continued to struggle, having to settle for the fifteenth best time behind Petrucci, with a gap that touches the two second mark. Jorge Lorenzo, who did not take any further risks after the crash yesterday, was unable to find the right feeling with his M1. The sixth best time, six tenths behind the leader (+0.608) is just another sign of the Majorcan’s difficulties, returning to the garage with a dark expression on his face.

Tenth in the warmup session was Scott Redding, who will start from the front row on the third spot of the grid. There were a couple crashes without consequences for Hernandez and Crutchlow, as well as one for Rabat.
