Aragon, SBK: Davies does the double

Securing the win also in Race 2, Chaz relaunches the title fight against Jonathan Rea

Aragon, SBK: Davies does the double

A double win at Motorland Aragon has gone a long way to boosting Chaz Davies' championship hopes, with the Brit truly proving his mettle with his Ducati this weekend.

Assen will tell us more about the speed of the bike/rider package, but the double win in Spain is definitely a good trampoline in terms of the championship.

As with Race 1, the first phase of Race 2 also saw the trio of Brits quickly break away to run their own race. Their rivals could do little, particularly Giugliano who, lying fourth on lap one, tried to stick with Rea but to no avail, gradually losing positions.

THE RACE - After an opening lap which saw Rea and Sykes take the lead, Chaz quickly took over and put his head down, setting a pace that was, on average, half a second quicker than the two Kawasakis. A pace that allowed him to build a significant advantage, beneficial in the final stages.

Tom Sykes crossed the line behind the Ducati Panigale R, thanking his team-mate Jonathan Rea for having run long three laps from the end while lying second. Third for Rea who loses a little of his advantage, though maintaining a decent lead over his two fellow countrymen.

Fourth for a strong Xavi Fores who once again brings the Ducati of team Barni so close to the podium. Fifth for Spaniard Torres on the BMW Althea and sixth for Davide Giugliano, who made up some lost ground, recovering from what was eighth place at the mid-race point. Micheal VD Mark concludes seventh, after a difficult weekend in which he suffered a crash in the early stages of Saturday's race. DNF for Nicky Hayden, who returned to the garage two laps from the end.

A solid 8th place finish for Alex De Angelis, who closes the weekend positively considering his worries after having had arm surgery. The Yamahas of Lowes and Guintoli round out the top ten in ninth and tenth place - there's still work for them to do as, despite their speed on the flying lap, the race pace is not yet there. 11th for Lorenzo Savadori with the other Aprilia of team Iodaracing.
